Following the success of Cornucopia (a cantata of 12 songs for children from 1997), this is a slightly longer work with texts by Steven Mainwaring, Douglas, Reeves, MacRae, Lear, Herrick, Hardy, Blake, Shakespeare, Stenson, Carroll, and Anon. Kaleidoscope was first performed on 17 July 2002 at the Philharmonic Hall, Liverpool with the Scunthorpe Co-operative and Chester Music Society Junior Choirs, Sefton schoolchildren and an ensemble conducted by the composer.
Included in the work are ‘The Owl and the Pussycat‘ and ‘When Icicles Hang by the Wall‘ (which are also published independently by Boosey and Hawkes in an unrelated anthology also named Kaleidoscope…!).
A recent performance was by Bromley Schools at Fairfield Halls, Croydon, on 2, 5 and 6 March 2012 conducted by Jessica Rabin for the Bromley Youth Music Trust.
